The obverse of the coin features the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Lithuania against a damascened background. Around it run the inscriptions LIETUVA (Lithuania) and 50 LITŲ (50 litas), with the year 1998 displayed below the Coat of Arms.
The reverse of the coin presents the picture of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Algirdas according to the medal created by the sculptor Vytautas Kašuba, encircled with the inscription ALGIRDAS DIDYSIS LIETUVOS KUNIGAIKŠTIS (Algirdas the Grand Duke of Lithuania). At the bottom, the years 1345-1377 are displayed.
